Fear

Joshua 1:9  Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be frightened, and do not be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.”

Do you like haunted houses? I don't; I am a scardy-cat. I don’t like them even in I know it isn't real- I don’t enjoy the feeling of being surprised by frightful things and having my heart race. There are enough real things in my life to be afraid of. From the small- stubbing a toe, to the large- roof-caving in, there are plenty of things that are unpleasant. I don't seek out more unpleasantness. I want movies with happy endings and I want to walk through houses where the biggest surprise is the awesome wallpaper.

Yet here we are at Halloween- a holiday I love. I like the costumes, candy, cider, donuts and crisp fall air. Not the scary stuff.

Maybe I shouldn’t avoid fearful things: after all as a Christian, I know I’m protected.

So what about you? What do you fear? Fear will prevent you from experiencing God's plan for your life. If you let fear control whether or not you obey God, you have already lost the race.

Fear inhibits the heart, but faith strengthens the heart. Faith allows you to move into uncharted territory with full confidence that God is already there waiting for you.

·        The fear of hatred keeps us from loving. Yet we know all love comes from God who overcomes hate.

·        The fear of scarcity often blocks us from being generous. Yet we know all blessings flow from God.

·        The fear of loneliness prevents us from making wise decisions. Yet we know God is with us always.

·        The fear of rejection keeps us from reaching out to other. Yet we know that the Lord will not reject us.

·        The fear of being unworthy keeps us from living life. Yet we know we are worthy on our Father's eyes.

A wise woman once told me there are only two emotions: love and fear.  One really- because fear of losing love is really about love not fear.

Dear God: When I am afraid, I put my trust in you. Help me feel your presence

Holy Spirit fill me up. Thank you for Your light to show us the way.
Free me of fears that I might fully realize we are all Your children and we are loved.

With your presence help me to live a loving life for healing and peace.

Thank you for your loving arms to help me feel secure.
Amen

1 John 4:18-10 18 There is no fear in love. But perfect love drives out fear, because fear has to do with punishment. The one who fears is not made perfect in love.19 We love because he first loved us. 20 Whoever claims to love God yet hates a brother or sister is a liar. For whoever does not love their brother and sister, whom they have seen, cannot love God, whom they have not seen.

You gain strength, courage, and confidence by every experience in which you really stop to look fear in the face. You must do the thing which you think you cannot do. ~Eleanor Roosevelt

2 Timothy 1:7 For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.
