VBS

Philippians 4:9 What you have learned and received and heard and seen in me—practice these things, and the God of peace will be with you.

I learn something important on Sundays- in church and at brunch.  Sharing time, conversation, and thoughts with others can help open my eyes to different viewpoints, digest the stuff that I learn and lead me to greater understanding of the Word.  Our conversations are casual and encouraging.  Nothing formal, just adult Christians sharing life experiences and concerns with each other.

What are your early memories of learning about Jesus? Learning about The Bible?

For me it was VBS- Vacation Bible School. Since my family didn’t really attend church, I didn’t really know about God’s promise by studying Noah or any other stories.  But I had friends and cousins who invited me to VBS. I remember graham crackers & grape juice.  There were skits & songs; most of the other memories are fuzzy.  When I visit Plymouth I sometimes drive past a couple of the churches where I attended VBS.  The seed that was planted was that church is a good place and people are nice and there are books and crayons & snacks.

Is your church hosting a VBS this summer? If so, maybe you can volunteer- there are always things that need to be done- preparing snacks, cutting out items for crafts, cleaning the classroom, or working with the children.  FPC-Dearborn is sponsoring a VBS class for The Second Mile Center- a neighborhood outreach center that serves some of the area’s most at-risk children & families.

While some of the volunteers will be directly involved with the VBS program, other volunteers are gearing up for projects throughout the building. These activities have a direct impact on the lives of the children & adults in the community.  What would you like to help with? There will be several cars leaving Dearborn each day so you can hitch a ride and enjoy the added benefit of friendly fellowship as you travel to & from.

A week of activities is planned starting with BBQ/Potluck on Sunday afternoon August 12 and a variety of activities the rest of the week.

For more info about helping, call 313-274-1313 or talk with Peg, Jan or Lynn at any event to get details.

A great way to plant seeds that church is a good place and people are nice and there are books and crayons & snacks.
