I recently read an article by Theologian John Piper. In it he states that most of the time, our prayers should be directed to the Father. "So the pattern that you find almost uniformly - I say almost uniformly - throughout the New Testement is pray to the Father in the name of the Son by the power of the Holy Spirit." He does conclude that we do need to express their
John 10: 27-29 reminds us that we can never lose our salvation. I'm not talking about joining a church and getting baptized. I am talking about a person who has expeienced a new birth, who abides in Christ as he abides in them, a person who has genuinely become a child of God. God has predestined us (see Romans 8:29-30) to recieve Jesus as Savior, remake us in Jesus' image, ju
What is something else every believer ought to know? That the Bible IS the word of God. "All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, that the man of God may be omplete, thoroughly equipped for every good work." -2 Timothy 3:16-17. It is historically accurate, unifi
What is one attribute of a believer? Someone who keeps God's commandments (1 John 2:3-6). While you receive salvation as a gift (not through works) and as we may not be sinless, our lives should reflect a transformation from eagerly running towards sin, to a new cretion that walks away from sin.
Do we ask God to forgive our sins or do we confess them to Him since we have already been forgiven?
While preparing some materials for Converge Young Adults on multiple intelligences, I was reminded how God has wired us all differently to come together as one body with many parts. We are "to prepare God's people for works of service, so that the body of Christ may be built up..." -Ephesians 4:12a. -Pastor Mike
I love technology...when it works! We have been "off-line" for a couple of weeks as our old computer crashed and we had to decide on a new one. That's much like our old lives. They had to die and be replaced so that we could be resurrected with Christ into a new, eternal life, one that is not free from sin but is transformng daily.
Jesus did not mince words with those who mistaught. "Woe to you, teachers of the law and Pharisees, you hypocrites! You clean the outside of the cup and dish, but inside they are full of greed and self-indulgence." -Matthew 23:25. Don't be full of truth and lack grace. Don't lose perspective on inner purity and have a corrupt heart. -Pastor Mike
To be a disciple of Jesus, one does not need to have a strong faith, unusual abilities, or leadership potential. "He appointed twelve - designating them apostles - that they might be with him and that he might send them out to preach and to have authority to drive out demons." -Mark 3: 14-15. Why these 12? They followed Jesus with a willing heart. -Pastor Mike
Taking up a cross is an illustrtion used by Jesus to show what ultimate submission he required of his followers. "...If anyone would come after me, he must deny himself and take up his cross and follow me." -Mark 8:34b. Jesus wants us to lose our self-centered determination to be in charge. Will you follow Him? -Pastor Mike
