Reaching Detroit

Second mile ministry is an opportunity to work along side the staff of the Second Mile Center (SMC) in the heart of Detroit, Michigan. First Pres Youth have taken the initiative here to help paint, and equip a room with computers and a printer to be used for their after school program.

Goals and Objectives:

• Offer weekly opportunities for community development to individuals and families residing in the SMC area.
  
  
• Provide opportunities that foster increased health awareness and improved health behaviors in individuals and families in the SMC area.
  
  
• Provide direct assistance to individuals, families and neighborhood groups on a case-by-case basis.
  
  
• Offer a free after school program three days per week during the school year for neighborhood youth.
  
  
• Provide opportunities that enlarge the vision and experiences of youth and families attending the SMC.
  
  
• Conduct a free 7-week summer program for youth with at least two weeks of VBS.
  
  
• Provide mission and/or learning opportunities for: students; seminarians; youth, church and PW groups.
