Music Ministries

  • Children's Choir - Children have several opportunities to participate in the music ministry at First Pres. Our Choristers Guild of America affiliated children's choir meets on Sunday afternoons at 4:00 pm. This choir is open to all children in our church and community that are interested in singing, grades K-5. Also, our Wednesday evening FISH program and Sunday morning Sunday School are two more opportunities for children to regularly make music. There are several times throughout the course of the year where the children present music in the worship service as well as perform in an annual musical.

  • Youth Choir - Our newly formed youth choir is open to all youth, grades 6-12. We invite all students who have a heart for the Lord and want to use their gifts and interest in music for His glory!

  • Adult Choir - Our adult choir is open to everyone from high school and older. We assist in worship at 10:00 am service and perform major works for the Christmas and Easter services.

  • Contemporary Music Teams- We have several contemporary music teams that fill various worship needs in our congregation, such as assisting in our 10:00 am Sunday worship, our new Saturday Evening Young Adult Outreach "Converge" and our once a month Prayer and Wholeness Service.

  • Children's Dance Ministry - First Pres has a new Dance Ministry involving all interested dancers in grades 3-12. The Dance Ministry performs for various service during the year and for other special events as well. Rehearsals are called when there is an upcoming performance.

  • Children's Handchime Choir - Our children play on two octaves of Malmark Handchimes. This ensemble is learning to read music and play instruments together. We regularly play in the worship services and at the NOEL Festival. This group practices on Sunday Afternoon at 5 pm.

If you are interested in participating in any of these music ministries, please contact Marshall Dicks, Director of Music at 313.274.1313.

The church is blessed to have two fantastic organs, one in the sanctuary and one in the chapel. The sanctuary organ is an Aeolian Skinner op.1427, built in 1964. This remarkable 70-rank organ is one of the finest in the region and a great example of Aeolian Skinner's "Classic American" organ. Composing 3 manuals, a pedalboard, and 5 divisions, the organ is extremely versatile and makes the church a sought after concert venue.

The chapel organ is dedicated to our former music director Dr. Alexander Turco. This smaller organ is excellently suited for the smaller chapel. It is a two manual and pedalboard 24 rank organ, built by the D.F. Pilzecker Co.
